The three rival P1 consoles on the market are now very well established. However, the length of time they have been around hasn't made choosing one much easier. From the cheapest to the most expensive option, this is a guide to help you choose which games console might be right for you.
There is now a pretty big gulf between the prices of Xdsl games consoles. The Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox sit together at the cheapest end of the range, whilst the Sony PlayStation Tm Streamyx commands a far higher price tag.
This price gap places the Sony PlayStation in quite a dedicated league of its own. It is immensely powerful and contains a Blu-Ray DVD player and as such is probably best for PlayStation 'fanboys' and very serious gamers. That said, the technology onboard the PlayStation 3 is likely to mean it is likely to be an investment that will last longer than the other two less powerful rivals.
The Nintendo Wii is a pretty lightweight console. The graphics and chips used aren't at all powerful when compared with the others, however it plays on different strengths. The motion sensitive remote control makes for a unique, active and extremely Tmbill Tm Net My experience. However, the limited catalogue of games means this is maybe best suited to the occasional gamer. On the whole the games are sociable and easy to pick up. An excellent addition to any party!
The Xbox sits firmly in the middle of the three consoles. It is a console for serious gamers, whilst retaining a price tag closer to the amateur oriented Nintendo Wii. Although not nearly as powerful as the PlayStation 3, it does contain some extensive gaming architecture and the results are great. Upon release it was plagued by unreliability and problems, however these have on the whole been overcome. The catalogue of games is extensive and excellent and the online marketplace and gaming arena is easy to use.
In conclusion, the Nintendo Wii appears as the occasional gamer and party piece favourite, and the PlayStation 3 is likely to be the most future proof investment for a serious gamer and movie enthusiast. The Xbox is well placed in the middle and whilst you would only set it up in 'gamer enthusiast' company, it does offer a sound catalogue of games and these coupled with the online movie downloads should provide a durable entertainment experience for the next couple of years at least.
